Pet Diabetes Awareness Month

This month is Pet Diabetes Awareness month at MVC! We would like to raise awareness in regards to the increased prevalence of pet diabetes. Diabetes in dogs and cats is much like the diabetes humans are diagnosed with in that the patient suffers an insulin deficit. Some common symptoms of concern include: increased thirst, increased urination, poor coat condition and lethargy. A visit to the vet can discern if diabetes is a concern to your pet and running blood to test for glucose levels is a good diagnostic tool! Treatment is available and includes proper management of your pet’s excercise and diet as well as insulin administration.

If you are concerned your pet is showing symptoms of diabetes and you have questions, please don’t hesistate to call us and ask!
